#5503 - Dinky Toys - Bedford - "O" Flatbed Truck with Drop Sides (Two-tone version!)

Reference Dinky Toys ( Great Britain ) : 411

Item without its box -

Model status: 4.0

The vehicle shown is a Bedford "O" series truck, launched in 1939 by Bedford, Vauxhall's commercial vehicle division (General Motors group). Its rounded "bomb-nose" bonnet and prominent grille made it one of the most familiar delivery trucks on the post-war British landscape. Meccano offered a flatbed reproduction under reference 25w from the late 1940s, renumbered 411 from 1954 to 1959/60. However, we offer you a common variant here! This is from the very beginning of production. Indeed, the grille and fenders are painted black. In addition, its green finish is equipped with light green painted zamac wheels (different from the body color): This is an infrequent combination! This model is from the first examples of the post-war series. They were sold in boxes of six pieces, which explains the presence of multiple chips on the model. Indeed, this Bedford bears the marks of its age: flaking paint on the cabin roof, the grille and the edges, as is often the case on these much-played models; oxidized chassis and pitted tow hook.... But, at least, it proves that we are in the presence of an original model! It remains nevertheless complete and original, a charming witness to British utilitarian toys of the 1950s.... It's a superb truck! This flatbed version is ultimately much less common than the one equipped with a tipper body. This small, atypical piece is offered here at an extremely competitive price. Take advantage of it!
