#4775 - Dinky Toys - Streamline Bus ("Holland Coachcraft") - Aerodynamic Coach (29 series)

Reference Dinky Toys ( Great Britain ) : 29 B

Single item -

Model status: 5.0

Description: The Dinky Toys England 29 series was introduced in 1934 with the 29 Motor Bus, an angular double-deck coach inspired by British city buses of the era. In 1934, the 29 series inaugurated public transport vehicles at Dinky Toys England, produced at the Meccano factory on Binns Road in Liverpool. The 29b Streamline Bus arrived in 1936 and represented a complete stylistic departure from its predecessor: where the 29 was angular and conventional, the 29b adopted the "streamline" aerodynamic design, very popular in the 1930s, inspired by American style. The body of the 29b was designed by Holland Coachcraft — a British coachbuilder specializing in modern bus and van bodies — hence the inscription "Holland Coachcraft Registered Design" molded or pad-printed on the sides of the model. This partnership between Meccano and Holland Coachcraft is remarkable: the coachbuilder registered its design and Dinky Toys reproduced it, an unusual practice at the time that gives this model a special status in the range. The model measures 88 mm and represents a monocoque coach with a fully streamlined body, with no visible separation between the bonnet and the body — a very modern concept at the time. The production of the 29b ran from 1936 to 1950, with several distinct variants depending on the period: 1936-1946 (pre-war and war): Two-tone bodies: green/cream, orange/cream, red/cream, red/brown, two-tone blue, two-tone green, yellow/orange, turquoise/red, black smooth zamac hubs; Open rear window; White or black tires depending on sub-variant. 1946-1947 (first post-war series): Cream and dark blue, smooth hubs, rear windows still open 1947-1950 (last series): Two shades of green, or grey/blue. Black tires, rear window now fitted — an easily recognizable and more recent variant. The model we offer here corresponds to the last series. The model is entirely original. It has a few small scattered chips. It is a superb item offered at a low price!
