Description: The Simca Cargo was not born a Simca. It was a Ford SAF (Ford France) design: a light truck designed in 1948, a prototype presented at the Paris Motor Show in October 1949, and marketed from 1950 as the Ford Cargo, replacing the Ford Poissy F 798 WM. When Pigozzi, head of Simca, bought Ford SAF and the Poissy factory on July 4, 1954, he continued – somewhat reluctantly – the production of the Ford Cargo, renamed Simca Cargo in early 1955. It was a small-tonnage carrier/tractor with a V8 gasoline engine, assembled in Poissy, produced from 1955 to 1966. The timing of the toy mirrors the real industrial history, which is delightful: Dinky Toys (Meccano) announced it in the 1954 catalog under the name "Ford Cargo," before releasing it in 1955 as the Simca Cargo, exactly as the real truck changed brands at the same time. Based on a common chassis-cab, it came in three body styles: a van (33 A), a tipper truck (33 B), and a Saint-Gobain glazier's truck (33 C). At an approximate scale of 1/50, entirely made of metal, manufactured in Bobigny. The series is a real puzzle: with the two chassis, the colors, the evolution from convex to concave rims in 1960/1961, smooth then ribbed tires, and box numbering; there are about forty combinations for a complete series. Our van, the 33 A, had the shortest career: 1955-1957, replaced in 1957 by the Bailly van (33 AN, renumbered 577). It is equipped with green painted zamak rims and an indented footboard. Let's clarify right away that, contrary to popular belief, the indented footboard, as well as its embossed version, are not earlier or later than each other! They coexisted in parallel. The reliable reference comes from Jean-Michel Roulet's nomenclature (the reference work): chassis type A has the footboard protection plate molded in relief, with the marking "Dinky Toys" centered on the small left tank (the Y and the O facing the ribs); chassis type B has the footboard molded in relief, the marking "Toys" centered (T and S facing the ribs), and the reference 33 placed further forward. We also appreciate the very beautiful smooth and satin paint quality. We can note a few minimal defects, such as very slight traces of rubbing on the front right wheel arch, a slight lack of silvering on the front bumper, and small molding defects on the right side of the van (which is common on this model), but, as you might expect, if we are detailing this type of defect, it means that the model presents extremely well. It is entirely original and sold with its box. We regret the absence of a tab on the latter. Indeed, on this same side, the collector used adhesive tape to consolidate the two flaps and the whole. This allows for a box that remains well-formed and rigid!
