#4439 - Solido - Berliet - Stradair Model Kit (7 vehicles to build)
Reference Solid ( France ) : PL3
Item with its box - of "Cardboard box" type (base and lid)
Model status: 4.2
This series of box sets produced by Solido in the 1960s was a kind of return to its roots. After its "Junior" series, launched before the war, which offered vehicles to assemble, the Vazeilles family had made a strategic shift with the launch of its "100 series" in 1957.
The aim was to compete with Dinky Toys by producing realistic, pre-assembled miniatures.
But this French company has always been one step ahead! In the late 1960s, Solido decided to produce assembly kits, thus seeking to reach an audience of children who wanted to play; but also their parents who would appreciate the educational and playful dimension of this type of product.
This marked the birth of the PL (Heavy Goods Vehicles) box sets. The idea was clever: a single box set, hours of play and assembly, and a whole fleet of trucks to assemble and transform according to one's imagination.
The model we are offering for sale here corresponds to the PL3 reference demountable box set, with its set of elements in place in the packaging.
The box set is superb, with its bodywork, cabins, wheels and accessories. The box looks good, and the set seems complete. We appreciate Solido's choice to select this Berliet Stradair for this box set.
A light French truck launched in 1965; it stood out for its integral pneumatic suspension, a rare innovation for the time, and for a very modern cab line. Designed for regional and urban distribution, it offered many body types: tipper, flatbed, dropside, tanker.
Bold but ahead of its time, it had only a brief commercial career. In retrospect, its wide range of features and its design made it the ideal truck for a product like this!
This box set is rare. Even more so in this condition. As for the price... I'll let you discover it, it might be the best surprise!
