#4438 - DUX - Mercedes - Assembly kit - LP 3226 Cab with Dump body, Flatbed, cab, chassis…

Reference DUX ( Germany ) : 720

Item with its box - of "Cardboard box" type (base and lid)

Model status: 4.8

Behind the DUX brand is Markes & Co., a company founded in Lüdenscheid, Westphalia, in 1904. Initially a subcontractor, it launched its own production of tin toys in 1933 and made a name for itself with its metal construction kits: the child did not receive a finished vehicle, but a set of parts — bodywork, chassis, axles, accessories — which they assembled themselves with a wrench and screwdriver. A very Germanic educational philosophy, in the tradition of the great Baukästen, which DUX applied to cars, trucks, and planes until the company ceased operations in 1982. We should note, however, that Solido had the same idea at the same time! The 720 set belongs to the range of construction trucks released in the late 1950s ("Western Germany" production, circa 1958-1960). Its lid sets the scene: a highway construction site in the midst of German reconstruction, where a red Mercedes dump truck is busy. The cab, bearing the star, most likely designates a late 1950s Mercedes-Benz; the hypothesis of an LP 326 (cab-over-engine) is consistent with the silhouette depicted, without being formally verifiable from the box illustration alone. The set offered is complete and remarkably fresh: the elements are still tied in their original packaging cardboard, with a grey dump body, blue flatbed, red cab, and bare chassis, with their chrome steel hubs. The Auto-DUX 720 instructions are present. The carefully illustrated box measures 37 × 23 cm. A perfect testament to post-war German construction toys, rare in this state of completeness.
