Description: On the roads of Germany in the early 1960s, the Mercedes W111 "Heckflosse" embodied prestige, rigor, and a nascent obsession with safety, thanks to its patented survival cell. It was this symbol of German engineering that served as the backdrop for a most surprising reinterpretation on the other side of the world. At the same time, Japanese firms were seeking to conquer the Western market with economical and flashy creations. By transforming the sensible sedan into a brightly colored "Fire Chief" pickup truck, Ichiko achieved a true cultural leap, unreservedly blending the aesthetics of a European luxury sedan with the imagery of American emergency services. This toy, made of tinplate and plastic with a simple friction motor, is the pure product of this industrial export logic, where attractiveness took precedence over any notion of licensing or fidelity. The presented example is the only known version of this automotive chimera. It boasts its red and yellow livery, spoked hubcaps, and black plastic chassis. Rated 3.5/5, it is complete but without its box, bearing the marks of a playful life with some usual scratches and slightly pitted chrome, while its friction motor still works. A rolling proof that the imagination of toy manufacturers already knew no bounds.
