Description: The Ford Escort Mexico is an iconic rally car from the 1970s, participating in the RAC Rally and the Circuit of Ireland. This is why the Italian company Mebetoys decided to reproduce it with a much better result than Dinky Toys. The "Mexico" sports derivative is recognizable by its matte black hood and its race number; a tribute to the car's victory in the "London Mexico" road marathon. The first version was produced in 1972. Like the version we offer here, it was equipped with raw zamak wheels and tires. At that time, Mebetoys had not yet been acquired by Mattel; the toy manufacturer used its "Europa" series. The model therefore bears the reference A-55. However, from 1974, Mattel acquired Mebetoys and gradually streamlined production, creating an intermediate period that resulted in the creation of countless variations: references, types of packaging, discontinuation of the Europa series... Moreover, the 1974 catalog already shows the coexistence of the A55 designation and the number 8552 (which is in fact the commercial reference). Our model is a typical example of this period. Normally, from 1974 onwards, the models were sold in a case that was no longer from the Europa series. And the raw zamak rims gave way to plastic monoblock wheels with chrome trim. Our model is particularly interesting. Indeed, it is equipped with raw zamak rims, which proves that it is from the early series. In addition, it is distributed in a Europa series box. On the other hand, only the reference 8552 can be seen. The A-55 reference does not appear anywhere. However, it is equipped with a chassis that seems quite modern, with a very prominent Mattel logo; which proves a late assembly. The model we offer is in superb condition. Very nice thick paint. The decals are impeccable. The chrome is perfect. There is really nothing to complain about! We also appreciate the finesse of the interior's realization and the presence of the chrome steering wheel. The box is complete and well-formed. However, it has suffered slight discoloration. Finally, it should be noted that this yellow version is uncommon. So take advantage of this opportunity, it's a model that doesn't come around often!
