Description: Born in late 1969 to challenge the untouchable Porsche 917, the Ferrari 512 S embodies the golden age of 5-liter sport-prototypes: a V12 engine of some 550 horsepower, twenty-five units to be built for homologation, and a titanic duel with Stuttgart from which it nevertheless achieved a resounding feat of arms, victory at the 1970 12 Hours of Sebring. It is this aura of being a rival to the 917, which was very topical at the time, that prompted Politoys to immortalize it at 1/43 scale in its diecast "E" series under reference E22, at a time when Italian manufacturers were vying for speed to freeze the prototypes of the moment in zamak. The reproduction captivates with its multiple opening parts, its finely detailed engine, its red livery, and its neat presentation in a clear display case, a trademark of the Milanese firm. Then came an episode that explains the boxing of the proposed model: to no longer be confused with the English Palitoy, the brand became Polistil at the turn of the 1970s — and the same shell continued its career under this new name. The model presented bears the number 4 and comes precisely in its Polistil box, guaranteeing a slightly later print run, for a mold quality rigorously identical to the Politoys version. Equipped with its black plastic wheels with chrome trim, this model has a beautiful paint finish. Moreover, these models with their boxes are worth collecting, especially since this box, in its Polistil version, is rare! Furthermore, the design suggests that the Brescia firm had not yet had much time to refine its packaging! Although less common than the PoliToys box, the latter remains very sober and therefore not very suitable for its period. Complete and pleasing to the eye, this is a beautiful racing piece in a display case, ideal for those who love the prototypes of the golden age. A must-have.
