The Delahaye 235 is the swan song of a great French brand: presented at the 1951 Paris Motor Show to modernize the pre-war 135 with a pontoon body designed by Philippe Charbonneaux, only 84 units were produced before Delahaye's demise in 1954 — an absolute rarity, most often bodied by Chapron. It is this prestigious silhouette, a star of the early 1950s motor shows, that likely captivated Plastica: in a France where plastic injection was revolutionizing inexpensive toys and seeing a multitude of small manufacturers emerge — reproducing an inaccessible luxury car was akin to slipping a dream into children's pockets. We have very little information about this manufacturer. And its production seems very limited. Aside from this Delahaye, Plastica produced a Simca Versailles, a Ford Comet, and a Renault Frégate. Always with the same type of plastic and manufacturing. Another peculiarity is that this manufacturer also produced a trailer equipped with a boat. But most notably, this manufacturer also released a pencil sharpener version of its Ford Comet! So take this opportunity to start collecting this series of models from this manufacturer, the advantage being that there aren't many different models! However, the body color and wheel rim variations are numerous. The model remains entirely in the spirit of these popular productions: a unibody molded from mass-tinted plastic, a black plastic chassis, grey wheels on metal axles, no glazing or opening parts, with appearance taking precedence over detail. These inexpensive and fragile toys were not made to last. When observing the other models produced by the firm, one can imagine that this Delahaye was its first model... And the firm must have quickly abandoned its production in favor of other, more modern models in its range. The fashion for the 235 died out with the real car in the mid-1950s. The offered example is equipped with grey plastic spoked wheels; it is in excellent condition, with all four wheels firmly in place — an endearing and uncommon testament to the golden age of French plastic toys.
