Solido Junior

Stand-alone item -

Model status: 4.8

Superb, entirely original bodywork, manufactured by Solido, representing a Simca Chambord. This piece belongs to the Soldo Junior series. The Junior range is based on a simple and brilliant idea that has defined Solido since the 1930s: a zamac toy that can be disassembled and reassembled at will with a small key. Solido sold a common mechanical chassis (often with a horizontal spring motor, sometimes a wind-up key) onto which interchangeable bodies could be attached. The child could thus change the car, play mechanic, and recombine the parts — a play advantage that the competition did not have. All the playful spirit of Solido is concentrated in this series, and this explains why today many standalone bodies like this one can be found. In its post-war version, the Junior series with a horizontal motor reproduced, around 1957-1968, the large French sedans of the era (Simca, Renault, Peugeot…). The finishes are more "toy-like" than those of the 100 series — freer engraving, and generally with a scale close to 1/40. The Chambord is a direct descendant of the Ford adventure in France. The Poissy factory had been built by Ford France before the war, and Ford SA produced the Ford Vedette with a V8 engine there. Simca bought the factory from Ford in 1954, along with the manufacturing rights for the car, which then became the Simca Vedette. The range took names of castles and prestigious places (Trianon, Versailles, Régence…). The Chambord was produced in France from 1958 to 1961. The image is high-end: the Chambord and the Beaulieu became prestige cars, on par with the expensive Citroën DS, and a distinct presidential edition (the Présidence) was even produced. This French model, with its American lines, naturally generated interest, curiosity, and great popularity. It's no coincidence that Dinky Toys, as well as Norev, reproduced it... And all three toy manufacturers reproduced this model almost at the same time! The Soldo Junior version differs notably in its scale and simplified appearance. And especially by the use of its junior range, allowing for a disassemblable version. This bodywork is superb: beautiful thick and shiny paint; the stencil and the finish of the grille are superb. If you already have a chassis equipped with another body, take advantage of this opportunity to treat yourself to a variant. Conversely, take advantage of this low price to acquire the body while waiting to find the other elements. In short, there will be many reasons to acquire this object because it is rare in this condition! Also, check out the Auto Jaune blog which features an article about holidays in which it mentions a Soldo Junior gift set with this chassis variant!
