Item with its box - of the individual cardboard box type (4 sides, 4 flaps, 2 tabs)
Model status: 4.5
Description: The 1958 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz is a pinnacle of American automotive baroque. Four unprecedented headlights, a widened grille in a shower of small chrome dots, and a rear sill adorned with stainless steel: everything about it is excessive, down to the 365 cubic inch V8 engine with a triple carburetor. Yet, this prestige convertible was born in the midst of the 1958 recession, one of the worst post-war years for the automotive industry: only 815 units were produced. It is this mix of excess and rarity that appealed to artisans, where major mass-production manufacturers would have passed it by. Record is one of them. The brand was founded in 1982 in Aix-en-Provence, stemming from the split of the MRF workshop — hence the mention "Record by MRF" on the box — and dedicated itself to hand-assembled 1/43 white metal miniatures. Its work is recognizable at first glance: fine bodywork engraving, multiple added chrome parts (grille, "Dagmar" bumperettes, trim strips), reproduced vertical fender strakes, and its characteristic amber-tinted headlights. The wheels are delicate chrome wire wheels, fitted with smooth black tires; the open interior is fully detailed. These Provençal white metal assemblies remained confidential, at a time when the era was already shifting towards resin, a material that other Aix workshops would eventually popularize. The offered model is the metallic silver-gray version, with the top down: the paintwork is clean, the chromes are well-preserved, and the overall piece is complete. Only a slight mark on the rear sill is noted, as is often the case with these older artisanal assemblies, and the white metal base shows the natural patina of the material. A charming piece, ideal for anyone who loves dream American cars signed by a French artisan.
