Description: The Lansdowne Models range was launched in 1993 by Brooklin Models Limited, the major British manufacturer of white metal models based in Bath, Somerset. Brooklin Models, founded in 1974 in Canada (Brooklin, Ontario) before moving to England, has been recognized for over forty years as the world's leading manufacturer of 1/43 scale white metal models. While the main Brooklin collection focuses on American automotive classics, the Lansdowne range was created to celebrate British cars with the same high quality standards: handmade models, cast in heavy white metal, individually painted in period colors, with chrome trim and simulated windows. The LDM.42, dedicated to the 1948 Wolseley 18/85 Series III, follows this tradition of ultra-faithful reproductions of great post-war British automotive heritage. The Wolseley 18/85 Series III was introduced in late 1938, just before the outbreak of World War II. It was built on a 2.6 m wheelbase and powered by a 2,322 cm³ inline six-cylinder engine with dual carburetors and an overhead camshaft developing 85 hp — an engine it shared with the MG SA. Pre-war production was interrupted by the conflict; it resumed in the autumn of 1945 and continued until 1948, for a total of approximately 8,213 post-war units. The Wolseley 18/85 Series III was highly valued by British police forces for its reliability, power, and standing. Wolseley, a brand of the Nuffield Group (later BMC), embodied the discreet prestige of the English professional class at that time. The LDM.42 was produced by Lansdowne/Brooklin in a single main version: • "Luxan Blue" (glossy medium blue) with a black roof — this is the standard and most common version, reproducing an authentic period color. Lansdowne productions are always in extremely limited series (typical production: fewer than 3,000 units over five years) and are considered collectors' items for adults, never intended for play. • A "Cabrio" version, hand-converted by collectors or resellers, also exists on the secondary market, but is not an official Lansdowne production. The characteristic beige Lansdowne box bears the inscription "Hand-built 1:43 Scale White Metal Collectable Models by Brooklin Models Limited"
